PostSubject: DHCP Reservation and Leases   Mon Aug 31, 2009 2:04 pm

Hi all
i have Implementet the dhcp Redundancy success fully on a 2008 R2 Server.

1. Reservation and Leases
I have noticed that the Reservation and Leases only reaply on the second DHCP Server when on the second DHCP Server the existing Scopes are not present. If the scoupe present then the new Reservation and Leases are not syncrone.
Is there a option do remove all scoups on the Second DHCP Server before import?

2. I have several Times that after a Reboot from the second DHCP Server Machine, the Service is running but after the first DHCP Server gows down the service notice nothing abount the down from the first DHCP Server. After i restart the DHCP-Redun. Service it checks between 1 min that the first DHCP Server is down and do the job.

Is there a verbose logging for the Service to check what it makes?

Thanks for help

The secondary server only imports (synchronizes) the DHCP when the first server goes down and the the second goes to redundancy mode (the DHCP-service goes up). The DHCP-Service also need full access to the directory %systemdir%/dhcp (eg. C:\WINDOWS\system32\dhcp)

There is no logging in this version, but i can include it in next version.

Hi Admin,

thats all ok. The Point is that when i import with netsh the configuration it says "Warning the Scope is still exist". This exsit if it is not the first fall back to the second dhcp server. The second have the old configuration from al previes fall back and the scops in the database. Now your service imports the configuration but the netsh wirte hey this scoupe is still present and i do not make a configuration change to this scope on the second server. When i remot all the scops on the second server and then a make a fall back to the second server, then the server imports all susessfully. this behavar is only by active leases and reservation.

The DHCP-Redundancy service does the import by itself when the main DHCP service goes down. So there is no need to do it manually.

But if you want to clear all configuration in the DHCP, stop the DHCP service and delete all files under %systemdir%/dhcp/ (eg. c:\windows\system32\dhcp\)
