PostSubject: The service is not renaming backup.txt to dhcp-backup.old   Wed Nov 26, 2008 9:38 am

Hi Everybody,

I had installed the DHCP-Redundancy Service, and it is running fine. But when I started it it's not renaming the file DHCP-Backup.txt to DHCP-Backup.old

Please any one can tell me the possible reason and solution for the same.

Thanks in advance.

What post do you get in the event viewer when you start the service? Start it, wait 5 minutes and then check the event viewer.

Hi Admin,

The following is the Event log:

The description for Event ID ( 1000 ) in Source ( MRTG ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support for details. The following information is part of the event: Can't exec "c:\mrtg-2.16.1\bin\mrtg": No such file or directory at c:\mrtg-2.16.1\bin\mrtg line 368..

You should look for for an event with source DHCP-Redundancy.

Is the DHCP-Server service stopped when you start the DHCP-Redundancy service?

Have you configured the right directory for the DHCP-Bacup.txt file in the DHCP-Redundancy config tool?

If an DHCP-Backup.txt file exist and you start the DHCP-Redundancy service and wait 10 minutes and then manually start the DHCP-server service on the secondary server, is anything imported in the DHCP-server?

PostSubject: Dhcp-Redundancy Problem   Thu Dec 11, 2008 7:36 am

Hi Admins,

Thanks for your valuable reply.
Well, I manage to renaming the file a (step 19). Finally the service is working fine with both the servers. Now the final problem is if 1st server is down, 2nd is getting up but clients machines are not getting the ip addresses.
I added the 2nd server ip in Router already, but still clients are not getting the ip.

In step 21 is written "add a DHCP relay address to the second server", please can anyone tell me it asking for which address?

Thanks in advance.

Sorry for the delay.
It means that you should add the secondary server's primary IP address in your routers DHCP request forwarding.
The DHCP service is only answering requests comming to the servers primary IP address. So if the server has more than one IP address, you should configure the routers DHCP request forwarding with the primary IP address
